The best years of your life
Klipsun Magazine
Since before you were a glimmer in your mother’s eyes, a story has been stewing, one of what we’re told will be the best years of our lives.

As the story goes, your twenties are the time to make your forever friends, find the love of your life, lay the foundation for your foreseeable future, and generally be the hottest, coolest and most unapologetic version of yourself.

We’ve made movies about it — books, too. We booze and reminisce. And when it comes time, we will probably help spin the tale for the next generation.

Unfortunately, though, it’s all bullshit.
"Meant to be"

Melissa Hatcher, 32, isn’t just the new owner of downtown Fairhaven’s Adored Boutique—she’s a legacy.
Since Adored opened in August 2020, Hatcher has worked by the side of former owner Bridget Knutson. Helping to start up a new business during the peak of the pandemic, Hatcher was expecting the hard stuff while solely managing the boutique, but she wasn’t expecting a blast from the past.

It wasn’t until after Knutson signed the lease for Adored’s spot in the Schering building that Hatcher realized their boutique’s new place of residence was the very same storefront her great-grandfather had rented 65 years previous.

PT Aero Museum
Bellingham Alive Magazine
Nestled in the northeastern-most expanse of the Olympic Peninsula, located at the Jefferson County International Airport is the Port Townsend Aero Museum.
One of just nine aviation museums in the state, the Port Townsend Aero Museum, first began operations in 2001 with just six donated planes. The publicly owned nonprofit was founded by Owners Jerry and Peggy Thuotte, retirees from United Airlines and experienced aircraft restorers.

Since then, they have accumulated around 60 registered planes, 36 of which are on display at any given time . . .
Bellingham’s best coffee shops for studying
The Front
I’ve been drinking coffee for as long as I can remember. And before you go critiquing my parents, know that it was my grandma sneaking me sips of what was probably more creamer than actual coffee.

When I came to the Nash dorms here at Western Washington University back in 2021, I did so with an espresso machine in tow, already knowing better than to depend on dining hall coffee.

Although I was slightly more snobbish than the average college student (I’d like to sincerely apologize to my neighbors for making the dorm hallway smell like a cafe), I was not alone in my pursuit of a solid cup of coffee . . .
WWU advances toward completely smoke-free campus
The Front
On May 9, Western Washington University held a public hearing to discuss the President’s Cabinet’s move toward enforcing a fully smoke-free campus to be imposed in the 2022-23 academic year.

Smoking, as defined by Western’s Smoke-Free Campus Task Force, is “directly inhaling or exhaling smoke from, burning or carrying any lit smoking instrument or using an electronic cigarette or vaporizing device.”

Western’s current policy prohibits all smoking on campus with the exception of identified outdoor smoking areas. The proposed amendment to this policy will take this one step further, restricting smoking and vaping of any kind, anywhere on campus.
